Chandigarh: The CBI has arrested two railway officers – Vivek Langayan and Pawan Kumar for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh in Haryana’s Ambala. Performing on a grievance from a neighborhood contractor, the case was registered.

The contractor alleged that he was awarded two contracts of Rs 92 lakh and Rs 1.15 crore via open tenders and after completion of the contract, he had submitted revised estimates.

It was additional alleged that the chief workplace superintendent demanded a bribe on behalf of the senior divisional sign and telecommunication engineer to approve the revised estimates. The bribe demanded was 2 per cent of the gross contract worth, The Indian Categorical reported.

“The CBI laid a lure and caught the accused whereas demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from the complainant. Searches at residential and workplace premises in Ambala of each accused have been carried out which led to the restoration of a number of paperwork.”

The senior divisional sign and telecommunication engineer – Langayan and the chief workplace superintendent Pawan Kumar have been posted within the workplace of divisional railway supervisor (DRM), Ambala Cantonment.

Lately, in April 2022, the CBI had arrested an assistant divisional engineer of Central Railway for allegedly receiving a Rs 1.80 lakh bribe for clearing a contractor’s Rs 89.55 payments, The New Indian Categorical reported.

The investigating company had registered a case in opposition to A B Chaturvedi, Assistant Divisional Engineer (South), Central Railway, posted in Nagpur on a grievance that he allegedly demanded a bribe of two per cent of the full pending invoice quantity of Rs 89.55 lakh.
