Taranjit Singh Sandhu Appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi
Taranjit Singh Sandhu was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on March 5, 2026, by President Droupadi Murmu, marking a significant transition in the administration.

Sandhu joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1988 and has accumulated over 35 years of experience in various diplomatic roles.
Sandhu served as the Indian Ambassador to the U.S. from 2020 to 2024, a period during which he was involved in key diplomatic engagements. He also contested from the Amritsar constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, finishing in third place with approximately 22.88% of the vote.
In addition to his role as Ambassador, he was the High Commissioner to Sri Lanka from January 2017 to January 2020 and has held various other significant positions, including serving as Consul General in Frankfurt from 2011 to 2013.
Sandhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on March 19, 2024, further solidifying his political career. His extensive experience in diplomacy, particularly in the U.S., is expected to influence his approach as Lieutenant Governor.
