Complaint Filed Against Hardik Pandya
“I believe it is an insult to the national flag,” stated advocate Wajid Khan Bidkar, who has filed a complaint against Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. The complaint alleges that Pandya disrespected the national flag during celebrations following India’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The incident reportedly took place after India triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs in the final, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Videos of the celebrations circulated widely on social media, showing Pandya dancing and lying down with the national flag wrapped around him.
Bidkar argues that Pandya’s actions violate the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. “According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag,” he emphasized.
The complaint was officially submitted at the Shivaji Nagar police station in Ahmedabad. Bidkar noted that the national flag represents the entire nation, which allows for the complaint to be filed in Pune, where he is based.
“The national flag is a symbol of the entire nation, and we can file a complaint here,” Bidkar added, highlighting the significance of the flag in representing national pride.
Following the submission, police confirmed that they had received the application but did not provide further details regarding any potential action that may be taken against Pandya.
India’s victory in the T20 World Cup marked a historic milestone, as it was the first team to win the title on home soil and the first to secure consecutive titles, having previously won in 2007 and 2024.
As the situation develops, Bidkar remarked, “Let’s see what happens next. I have filed the complaint.” Details remain unconfirmed regarding the next steps in this case.
