PM Kisan 22nd Installment to Benefit Millions of Farmers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Guwahati, Assam, on March 13, 2026. This installment will see an amount exceeding ₹18,640 crore transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.32 crore farmer families across the country.
With this latest disbursement, the total amount transferred under the PM Kisan scheme will surpass ₹4.27 lakh crore. Each eligible farmer family receives ₹6,000 annually, distributed in three equal installments, aimed at providing crucial financial support for agricultural activities.
Notably, over 2.15 crore women farmers will benefit from this installment, reflecting the government’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture. According to Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a prominent supporter of the scheme, “This timely assistance helps farmers purchase essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.”
The PM-KISAN scheme, initiated in February 2019, has significantly impacted the rural economy by boosting demand and reducing farmers’ dependence on debt. Chouhan emphasized that “the PM-KISAN scheme has boosted demand in the rural economy, reduced farmer’s dependence on debt, and encouraged agricultural investment.”
Farmers can easily complete their e-KYC from home using a face-authentication-based mobile app, enhancing accessibility. Additionally, the ‘Know Your Status (KYS)’ module allows beneficiaries to check their payment status and eligibility, ensuring transparency in the process.
The scheme operates through India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, which has been pivotal in maintaining transparency and efficiency. The government has also introduced a ‘Voluntary Surrender’ facility for affluent farmers to ensure that benefits reach genuine beneficiaries. A robust verification system is in place to remove ineligible or deceased beneficiaries from the list.
Furthermore, the AI-based voice chatbot ‘Kisan-eMitra’ provides information related to PM-KISAN in 11 regional languages, making it easier for farmers to access information. As the PM-KISAN scheme continues to evolve, observers expect it to further enhance support for farmers, although details remain unconfirmed.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has placed the welfare of farmers at the heart of policy-making, ensuring that the benefits of such schemes reach those who need them the most.
