Ashok Kharat, a self-styled numerologist and spiritual guide, was arrested by the Nashik Crime Branch on March 19, 2026, following allegations of serial sexual exploitation, drugging, and involvement in black magic practices. Kharat, who gained prominence after returning from a career in the Merchant Navy, had built connections with local leaders and officials, which has now come under scrutiny.
The allegations against Kharat surfaced when a 35-year-old woman reported systemic abuse that began in November 2022. According to police reports, Kharat allegedly used intoxicants mixed in food and water to drug women before sexually assaulting them. The severity of the charges has led to Kharat being booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, criminal intimidation, and sexual harassment, as well as under the Maharashtra Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
During a raid on Kharat’s office, authorities seized a pen drive containing 58 obscene video clips, further complicating his legal situation. The court has remanded Kharat to police custody until March 24, 2026, as investigations continue.
