Launched in 2021, Mission Karmayogi is designed to enhance the capabilities of every government employee in India. The initiative emphasizes the importance of technology in governance and decision-making, with a guiding philosophy of “Nagrik Devo Bhava,” which treats the citizen as supreme. The program seeks to shift governance from a rule-based to a role-based approach, equipping officials with the competencies suited to their responsibilities.
During the recent Karmayogi Sadhna Saptah, a week-long capacity-building program observed from April 2 to April 8, officials engaged in various training sessions aimed at improving their skills. Dr. R Balasubramaniam remarked, “Mission Karmayogi is playing a key role in making government officials future-ready and transforming the capacity-building ecosystem in the country.” This underscores the initiative’s focus on preparing officials for the challenges of modern governance.
Over 1.5 crore government officials are currently active learners on the iGOT platform, which offers more than 4,600 competency-linked courses. In the last National Learning Week alone, participants logged 4.5 million hours of course enrollments, resulting in 3.8 million hours of actual learning. The platform has seen upward of 8.3 crore course completions, demonstrating the commitment of officials to continuous improvement.
The Capacity Building Commission (CBC), established in April 2021, collaborates with all 30 States and Union Territories to create tailored Capacity Building Plans. This coordinated effort is essential for ensuring that the training provided is relevant and impactful across diverse regions and governance structures.
As part of its ongoing efforts, the mission includes AI-based training sessions to familiarize officers with emerging technologies. This integration of technology into training reflects over 11 years of deep integration of technology into government functioning, paving the way for a more efficient and responsive administration.
In a statement that resonates with the mission’s objectives, PM Modi emphasized, “Before every decision, when you think about what your duty demands, the impact of your decisions will automatically multiply many times over.” This call to action reinforces the critical role that well-trained officials play in shaping effective governance.
