In a groundbreaking development, Indian Railways has announced that it is now operating nearly 25,000 trains daily, a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity across the nation. This transformation is not just about passenger services; it also encompasses freight transportation, which has achieved a remarkable 1,670 million tonnes of loading in the fiscal year 2025-26.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the scale of this operation, stating, “Indian Railways is transforming connectivity across the nation with nearly 25,000 trains running every day throughout the year.” This commitment to improving rail services is evident in the production of over 1,500 locomotives and more than 6,600 LHB coaches, which are crucial for supporting the increased volume of train operations.
In addition to passenger and freight services, Indian Railways is also focusing on safety and technology enhancements. The commissioning of the Kavach Automatic Train Protection System over 3,000 route kilometres is a testament to this commitment. This system aims to prevent accidents and improve the overall safety of train operations.
Furthermore, Indian Railways has approved a substantial ₹398.36 crore optical fibre project for the Ahmedabad and Ratlam divisions. This initiative is part of a larger national plan, which allocates ₹27,693 crore for establishing a robust railway communication backbone across the country.
The optical fibre project will cover 1,929 route kilometres, laying high-capacity fibre optic cables that are expected to enhance communication and operational efficiency within the rail network. This project is particularly significant as it aligns with the government’s vision of modernizing railway infrastructure.
