Voter Search Updates in West Bengal
“We have faith in the judicial system. Many people in the area are in panic. We have asked them not to worry. If necessary, we will organise a larger movement,” stated Zakir Hossain, highlighting the concerns surrounding the recent changes in the voter list in West Bengal. The final voter list for the state now stands at 6 crore 44 lakh 52 thousand 609 voters, following the Special Intensive Revision.
Despite the large number of registered voters, approximately 60 lakh 6 thousand 675 names are currently under adjudication, creating uncertainty among the electorate. Additionally, the Election Commission has removed 63 lakh 66 thousand 952 names from the voter list, further complicating the situation for many residents.
Election Commission’s Role and Revisions
The final voter list was published in compliance with directives from the Supreme Court, which mandated a thorough review of the electoral rolls. The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal has encouraged voters to check their names using their EPIC number, ensuring that all eligible citizens can verify their registration status. The list has been displayed at all polling stations and is also available at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
As the Election Commission of India (ECI) continues to revise the timelines for West Bengal’s Special Intensive Revision, the final publication date has been postponed to February 14, 2026. This delay has raised concerns among political parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), regarding the integrity of the electoral process.
Assam’s Voter List and Gender Representation
In Assam, the final voter list has also seen significant updates. The list now covers 126 assembly constituencies and includes over 24.95 million voters. This final list comprises 12,482,213 male voters, 12,475,583 female voters, and 343 third-gender voters, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity in the electoral process.
The draft voter list for Assam initially contained 25,201,624 voters, but this number decreased by 243,485 to arrive at the final count. The integrated draft voter list for the Special Revision (SR) 2026 was published on December 27, 2025, marking a crucial step in ensuring that the electoral rolls are accurate and up to date.
