Current Population in Goa
As of March 2026, Goa’s population stands at 15.8 lakh residents, according to the Economic Survey for 2025-26. This figure reflects the ongoing demographic changes in the region, highlighting the increasing density of the population.
In tandem with population growth, the number of vehicles in Goa has surged to 14.5 lakh by December 31, 2025. This rise indicates a growing reliance on personal transportation, with approximately 0.9 vehicles per person in the state.
Among these vehicles, 8.9 lakh are motorcycles and scooters, which are particularly popular for navigating the state’s roads.
Wildlife Conservation Efforts
In a significant development for wildlife conservation, India’s cheetah population has reached a total of 35 individuals. This includes the recent birth of five cubs by Aasha, a Namibian cheetah, on February 7, 2026. This event marks a milestone in the efforts to reintroduce the cheetah, which became extinct in India in 1952.
The project, known as Project Cheetah, was initiated on September 17, 2022, with the aim of restoring the cheetah population in India. Currently, there are 24 surviving Indian-born cubs, showcasing the success of the reintroduction efforts.
Bhupender Yadav, a key figure in the project, remarked, “Kuno welcomes the birth of FIVE Cubs. Aasha’s legacy leaps forward–India welcomes her five adorable cubs!” He further emphasized the dedication of the field staff and veterinarians involved in this initiative.
Women’s Role in Development
In discussions surrounding population dynamics, the role of women in India’s development has been highlighted. Droupadi Murmu stated, “True development requires equal participation of women, who represent nearly half of India’s population.” She underscored that women’s empowerment is vital for India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
