“Deeply regret to inform that Producer/Director/Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru,” announced Nikil Murukan.

Thakkali Srinivasan, known for his extensive work in Tamil cinema, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness. He began his career as a producer with the film Ivargal Varungala Thoongal in 1987, marking the start of a notable journey in the film industry.

Throughout his career, Srinivasan produced several landmark films including Manasukul Mathappu, released in 1988, and Nalaya Manithan, which came out in 1989. His work extended beyond production; he also directed and composed music for Jenma Natchathiram, a remake of the classic horror film The Omen.

In addition to his production and directing roles, he played the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan-starrer Soora Samharam. His contributions to cinema were complemented by his philanthropic efforts in later years, as he ran an ashram and lived with his adopted children.

His last directorial project was Aduthathu, inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None. This film was a testament to his enduring creativity and passion for storytelling.

“A successful producer who produced some landmark films like Ivargal Varungala Thoongal, Manasukul Mathappu, Nalaya Manithan, Jenma Natchathiram, Athisiya Manithan, Witness, and many more films,” a source noted, highlighting his significant impact on the industry.

Thakkali Srinivasan was confirmed to have passed away due to health complications, and his final rites are scheduled to be performed on March 11, 2026, in Bengaluru.

His legacy in Tamil cinema and his contributions to society will be remembered by many, marking the end of an era for fans and colleagues alike.
