New Terminal Enhances Connectivity
The new integrated terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati commenced commercial operations on March 11, 2026. This development is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve operational efficiency, further establishing Assam as a key gateway to the northeastern region.
Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighted the importance of the terminal, stating, “The terminal had been constructed with local participation and symbolised Assam’s growing role as a key gateway to the northeastern region and beyond.” This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity.
Upcoming Sporting Events
In addition to the airport’s opening, Guwahati is set to host a high-profile cricket match where the Rajasthan Royals will face the Chennai Super Kings on March 30, 2026, at the ACA Stadium. This match is part of a series where the Rajasthan Royals will play three home matches in Guwahati, further promoting the city as a sports destination.
Cultural Celebrations
On the cultural front, the Guwahati Artists Guild has begun its golden jubilee celebrations, marking 50 years of contribution to the visual arts in Assam. An art exhibition titled “From the Land of Chitralekha” was inaugurated on March 9, 2026, featuring works by 32 women artists.
The exhibition aims to present a diverse range of visual languages, mediums, and materials, while also highlighting emerging voices alongside established artists. It will remain open to visitors daily from 3 pm to 8.30 pm until March 21, 2026.
As part of the celebrations, the guild will also host a theatrical performance by Papri Medhi on March 14, and a day-long documentary screening on March 15, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
