Guwahati, Aug 5 (IANS): Assam authorities has rewarded 99 of its non-gazetted workers for exemplary service to the individuals by extending their retirement age by one yr.

Accordingly, 10 state-level workers and 89 district-level workers had been rewarded with the Lok Sewa award which carried a money reward of Rs 25,000 every together with a yr of service extension. The awardees shall be superannuated on the age of 61.

Talking on the event, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned the day is being celebrated as Lok Kalyan Diwas as a mark of respect to Gopinath Bordoloi, the primary Chief Minister of Assam.

“Assam is enormously indebted to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi. It’s due to his essential act that Assam has been saved from being a part of East Pakistan, which is now Bangladesh.

“Bordoloi performed an essential function in defeating the proposals of the Cupboard Mission Plan. Had the plan been profitable, the geography and historical past of Assam would have been completely different right this moment,” Sarma mentioned.
