DIBRUGARH: MLA from Dibrugarh constituency in Assam – Prasanta Phukan has urged the Centre to completely shut the outdated Dibrugarh railway station.
Assam MLA Prasanta Phukan urged union railway minister – Ashwini Vaishnaw to completely shut down the outdated Dibrugarh city railway station (DBRT) and divert all trains to the brand new Dibrugarh railway station (DBRG).
The brand new Dibrugarh railway station (DBRG) is situated in town’s outskirts at Banipur.
Prasanta Phukan has written to union railway minister – Ashwini Vaishnaw on the matter.
Within the letter the Dibrugarh MLA said, “A railway line is, undoubtedly, a lifeline for the event of any area. Nevertheless, the present railway monitor of Dibrugarh City railway station is likely one of the primary impediments to the event of Dibrugarh city.”

“The railway monitor has divided Dibrugarh into two components – southern half and northern half. Other than inflicting severe site visitors congestion within the city the railway monitor has restricted the widening of the street operating parallel to the railway monitor,” Phukan additional said within the letter.
“Numerous instructional establishments like Sampoorna Kendra Vidyalaya, St Mary’s Faculty, Little Flower Faculty, MDKG Women’ Faculty, DHSK Commerce Faculty, DHSK Faculty in addition to the Dibrugarh Catholic Church and the SBI Gabharupather department are are situated on the KC Gogoi Highway which runs parallel to the railway monitor contained in the city. The railway monitor has restricted the width of the KC Gogoi Highway to simply 5 metres inflicting fixed site visitors jam on the busy street,” it added.
Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan within the letter mentioned: “So, in view of the above information, I request you to kindly think about closing down of the Dibrugarh City Railway Station and divert all trains to the brand new Dibrugarh Railway station at Banipur for the better comfort of the folks.”
Notably, the Dibrugarh City Railway Station was inbuilt 1882. It’s the oldest railway station in Northeast.
