Guwahati: A Bangladeshi national has been arrested in Morigaon, Assam on suspicion of smuggling cattle from India to Bangladesh. An official gave this information.
Morigaon district superintendent of police Aparna Natarajan told IANS that they detained the man on Saturday evening and later arrested him.
The man has been identified as Nooraj Zaman. He was a resident of Banglabazar in Sunamganj area of Bangladesh.
The police officer said that Zaman entered India on July 14 through the Dawki border in Meghalaya with a valid tourist visa. Then he came to Assam and roamed in Moirabari area of Morigaon district.
Although he was a tourist, Zaman was looking to buy cattle from the local market. He also bought some cattle and only then did he come under the target of local police informers.
Natarajan said, “Police had tracked him for the past several days. The man was planning to take those cattle from Dawki border to Bangladesh.
The police have recovered several incriminating documents from him. There were lots of pictures of animal markets, huge Indian currency notes and Indian SIM cards.
