CHANDIGARH: GST Intelligence officers have detected tax evasion of round Rs 25 crore by a Haryana-based producer of tobacco merchandise, a senior official of the Chandigarh zonal workplace stated on Sunday.

Appearing on intelligence-based inputs, tax sleuths, led by Joint Director Balwinder Singh and Deputy Director Navneet Kaushal, carried out raids on the premises of the agency in Tohana in Haryana.

Searches have been additionally performed on the premises of sellers and uncooked materials suppliers in Chandigarh, Kurukshetra and Sonipat, stated the official of the GST (Items and Providers Tax) Intelligence, Chandigarh zonal workplace.

The GST intelligence officers had the data that the agency was eradicating its tobacco merchandise in a clandestine method to evade tax.

Throughout searches, officers recovered unaccounted money to the tune of Rs 10 crore from the office-cum-residential premises of the proprietor of the agency and likewise seized numerous incriminating paperwork, stated the official.

The official stated although the investigation of seized information was nonetheless underway, the agency has evaded tax to the tune of round Rs 25 crore.
