Prior to this election, expectations leaned heavily towards MK Stalin’s ruling party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Many analysts predicted another term for Stalin, who had been in power for five years.

However, TVK won a decisive 85 seats and is leading on an additional 22 seats out of a total of 234 constituencies. This represents a significant vote share of 34.72 percent, translating to approximately 1.18 crore votes.

The DMK managed to secure only 41 seats, with a vote share around 24 percent, equating to about 84 lakh votes. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) followed with 32 seats.

A key moment occurred when MK Stalin lost his Kolathur constituency to TVK candidate V S Babu by around 8,700 votes. This loss has raised questions about the DMK’s future leadership.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, MK Stalin’s son, did manage to win his Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency. He stated, “The people of Tamil Nadu have delivered their verdict, and we humbly accept it.” This reflects a shift in public sentiment.

Sivakarthikeyan congratulated Vijay on his victory, emphasizing its significance: “Congratulations to Vijay sir for achieving such a big victory and impact in his first election.” This indicates a strong endorsement from influential figures within the industry.

The results indicate a potential realignment in Tamil Nadu politics. Experts suggest that this could mark the beginning of a new era for the state.
