As of early Tuesday, imports surged by 25.8%, contributing significantly to the GST revenue. The import-related GST revenue amounted to ₹57,580 crore.

This marks an increase from ₹2.23 lakh crore collected in April 2025. The rise in imports indicates a shift in economic activity, although there are signs of softening domestic demand.

The domestic revenue also saw a year-on-year growth of 4.3%, totaling ₹1.85 lakh crore. Meanwhile, the total refunds issued increased by 19.3%, reaching ₹31,793 crore.

Notably, domestic refunds rose by 54.6%, while export refunds decreased by 14%.

This upward trend in GST collection reflects the ongoing dynamics in import trade and its impact on the economy. Observers are keenly watching how these developments will influence future economic policies.

The historical context shows that GST collections were at ₹1.67 lakh crore in April 2022 and rose to ₹2.10 lakh crore in April 2024.
