As early as the evening of April 27, isolated dust storms and light rainfall activity could begin. Widespread dust storms and thunderstorms are likely between April 28 and April 30 across several northern states including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Temperatures could dip below the 42°C mark starting April 29. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recorded temperatures as high as 46°C in Rajasthan and 44°C in Uttar Pradesh recently.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 30–40 kmph on April 28, increasing to 40–50 kmph on April 29. Thunderstorm activity is likely to continue until at least May 2, bringing a mix of relief and concern.

The IMD warns of possible localized disruptions due to strong winds and thunderstorms. Observers note that such occurrences during an intense heatwave phase are relatively uncommon.

The approaching disturbances are being seen as the “only ray of hope” in easing the ongoing heatwave. Dust storms are expected to precede or accompany rainfall activity, which should help mitigate extreme temperatures.

Rainfall activity will increase across the region, while parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh may see dry weather initially. The current sequence of disturbances is rare during this period of intense heat.
