What does the passing of Mary Lou Fritz mean for the Chambersburg community? At 91 years old, her death marks the end of an era for many who knew her.

Mary Lou Fritz, born on October 28, 1934, in Fort Loudon, PA, was a long-time resident of Menno Haven, where she spent the last seven years of her life. She was married to Coey W. Fritz on May 24, 1953, until his passing on January 29, 2011. Together, they faced the tragedy of losing their only child, Coey William “Will” Fritz II, who died on September 12, 1980.

Mary Lou graduated from Lemasters High School and later from Chambersburg Business School. Her professional life included roles in the accounting departments of Fairchild, York Telephone Co., Anvil Products, and Beck Manufacturing Co., from which she eventually retired.

Active in her faith, she was a member of both the Fort Loudon United Church of Christ and St. Paul United Methodist Church. Mary Lou was known for her love of walking, playing the organ, and spending winters in Arizona.

She is survived by three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry on her legacy. A memorial service is scheduled for April 19, 2026, at Menno Haven, allowing friends and family to pay their respects.

Mary Lou’s life was a testament to resilience and community spirit. As Jeannie Bruins once remarked, “You don’t look a day over 90,” highlighting her vibrant personality even in her later years.

Burial will take place at Stenger Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The community mourns her loss and reflects on the impact she made during her lifetime.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further memorial events or tributes planned in her honor.
