Ida Pramuwardani from Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated, “The phenomenon seen in the video is a common occurrence in the atmosphere and is related to atmospheric optics.” This type of cloud, known for its vibrant hues of pink, green, and blue, occurs when sunlight diffracts off ice crystals.

The phenomenon was confirmed as genuine by BMKG. They noted that specific conditions are necessary for such clouds to form. The pileus cap—a lenticular cloud—provided the consistent droplets required for this iridescence.

Colors in iridescent clouds can change rapidly and may quickly disappear. This fleeting nature adds to their allure. In recent years, similar clouds have been sighted in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore.

While these clouds can be confused with nacreous clouds or coronae, their distinct appearance has sparked curiosity among locals. The event gained traction on social media platforms as viewers shared their amazement.

Residents are advised that observing these clouds can be potentially dangerous due to their proximity to the sun. Iridescent clouds typically occur where the sun appears, making direct observation risky.
