Freeman played linebacker at Ohio State from 2004-08 before starting his coaching career.
He was the defensive coordinator for Luke Fickell at the University of Cincinnati before taking the Notre Dame job.
His first game was against a defense run by Jim Knowles, who is now the defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes.
