Salman Rushdie Stabbed In Neck on Stage

Author of Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie has been taken to hospital after being attacked while on stage at an event in New York.

Indian-born British writer Rushdie, whose earlier writing led to death threats and a fatwa from the Iranian regime, was pictured lying on the ground of Chautauqua Institution's stage.

An Associated Press reporter witnessed a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and begin stabbing Rushdie as he was being introduced.

Members of the audience of the CHQ 2022 events gasped as the 75-year-old Satanic Verses author as the attacker ran on to the stage and Rushdie fell to the floor.

A photograph from the scene shows a community safety officer and others with their hands over Rushdie’s chest and holding his legs up in the air.

He was pictured being taken away in a stretcher, with an IVF drip in his arm and blood covering his torso, hands and face.

New York state police later said he was suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck and had been flown by helicopter to a local hospital.
