Ninety-seven employees fell ill after consuming idli, vada, and sambar-rice at a company canteen in Bengaluru.

As of midday, affected employees reported symptoms consistent with food poisoning. These include abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

The employees were admitted to two private hospitals for treatment. They received intravenous fluids to manage their symptoms.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported among those affected. However, the situation remains serious.

Within hours of the incident, samples of leftover food were sent for laboratory testing. Health officials are currently awaiting results.

The incident is being treated as suspected food poisoning. An investigation into food preparation, storage, and hygiene practices is underway.

Health officials noted that fermented foods like idli and vada require extra care during summer months due to bacterial contamination risks. Fermented foods react faster to temperature and humidity changes.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact cause of the contamination. The incident has drawn significant attention to food safety concerns in Bengaluru.

Shooting Incident in Payal

In a troubling incident in Payal, India, Satnam Singh was shot in the forehead by Sukhbir Singh, the son of a Home Guard. The shooting has raised concerns in the community, prompting police action against the prime suspect.

Satnam Singh was rushed to Civil Hospital, Payal, where he was treated for serious injuries. Following the initial care, he was referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala as per the demands of his relatives, highlighting the gravity of his condition.

Harvinder Singh Kaler, a local spokesperson, stated, “Satnam was brought to hospital in a serious condition, following which he was referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, as demanded by relatives of the victim.” This incident has sparked discussions about safety and security in the area.

In a separate but notable event, close to 575 Iowa National Guard soldiers returned home on March 7, 2026, after being deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. This operation aimed to reduce ISIS operations in Iraq and Syria.

The return of these troops coincides with a welcome home ceremony scheduled for March 8, 2026, which will also serve as a moment to honor Staff Sgts. Edgar Torres-Tovar and Nate Howard, who were tragically killed by an ISIS gunman during an attack in Syria.

Bret Hileman, a representative of the Iowa National Guard, reflected on the challenges faced during deployment, saying, “That’s the beans, bullets, food, water, any of the commodities that you would need to sustain yourself in an outstation, we supplied. We got it to them.”

He further added, “You never want to lose someone in combat but that’s part of why we signed up. We said: ‘we will do it’.” This sentiment underscores the sacrifices made by soldiers during their service.

The welcome home ceremony will provide an opportunity for the returning troops to reconnect with their families and community, with Hileman noting, “When you have a ceremony like this, you can let your guard down now. You’re out of harms way, you’re back home, and you can move on with life. It’s just kind of closing that chapter.”

As the Iowa National Guard troops transition back to their civilian lives, the community in Payal remains focused on the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident. Details remain unconfirmed.
