Raul Fernandez of the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team secured a dominant victory at Silverstone, marking his second Grand Prix win and his first of 2026. He led the race from the start, overcoming a setback from Saturday’s sprint race. This performance saw him finish ahead of Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi, both from Aprilia Racing.
Fernandez, who started from P2, took the lead early in the race, snatching the holeshot from Marco Bezzecchi. While Jorge Martin, who was on pole, and Ai Ogura battled through the initial turns, Fernandez quickly established a lead. By Lap 3, he had set a new race lap record and built a 2s advantage over the chasing pack.
Despite starting from pole position, Martin experienced technical issues at Turn One, briefly dropping to fourth place. He managed to recover and finish second, extending his championship lead. Martin now holds a 31-point advantage over his teammate Bezzecchi in the standings.
Race Incidents and Standings Shifts
The race saw several incidents, with multiple riders crashing out. Enea Bastianini fell at Turn 17, Iker Lecuona crashed at Turn 12, and Cal Crutchlow tumbled at Turn 6. On Lap 8, Francesco Bagnaia also fell at Turn 7, the same location as the previous year. Additionally, Alex Rins and Joan Mir were out after a first-lap collision.
Ai Ogura, who had been battling early on, dropped to P7 and later crashed at Turn 16 on Lap 9, ending his Grand Prix. This incident meant that Ogura, who had been second in the championship, dropped to third in the standings. His crash marked his first failure to finish a race this season.
Meanwhile, Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP moved up the order, reaching fifth place ahead of Pedro Acosta. He later moved into third position on Lap 9. However, a mistake at Turn 1 caused him to drop to fifth before he recovered to fourth, re-passing Acosta. Marc Marquez, the defending champion, finished seventh in the race and is now 40 points behind Martin in the title race.
Final Laps and Championship Implications
In the closing stages, Fernandez maintained a significant lead, being over four seconds ahead of his closest rivals with five laps remaining. Although the gap to Martin reduced to 3.4s with four laps to go, and then 3.1s a lap later, Fernandez’s victory was not threatened. He crossed the finish line with a 2.5s lead, securing his first Grand Prix victory of the season.
This win makes Fernandez the 12th different winner at Silverstone in the last 12 British Grands Prix. The podium was completed by Martin in second and Bezzecchi in third, making it an all-Aprilia podium. Alex Marquez was the first Ducati rider to finish, securing fourth place, followed by Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Other notable finishes included Brad Binder, who took his first back-to-back top tens of the year in eighth, and Luca Marini, who was the top Honda rider in P9. Diogo Moreira completed the top ten. The championship now has 10 rounds remaining, with Martin extending his lead. The next race of the 2026 season is the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain on 30 August.
