Tamil Nadu recorded a voter turnout of 82.24% in the latest polling update. This figure sets a new record, surpassing the previous high of 78% achieved in 2011.
As of midday, 30 out of 38 districts in Tamil Nadu registered over 80% voter turnout. Notably, Karur district achieved the highest turnout at 89%.
Chennai also performed well, with a voter turnout of 83.44%. This marks a significant increase compared to the 73.63% turnout in the previous election held in 2021.
The total number of voters in Tamil Nadu has been revised to 5.73 crore, down from 6.28 crore in 2021. Reports indicate that about 70 lakh names were removed from the electoral rolls prior to this election.
Tamil Nadu’s election officials reported that many voters faced challenges getting to their hometowns ahead of the vote—some expressed frustration over transportation issues.
