Lewis Hamilton has decided to abandon the Ferrari simulator before the Canadian Grand Prix. This decision stems from his frustrations with the team’s recent performance and preparation.
Hamilton claims that Ferrari is losing three to four tenths in straight-line speed compared to competitors. He finished seventh in the Miami Grand Prix after a collision, although his position improved to sixth after Charles Leclerc received a penalty post-race.
Ferrari delivered 11 upgrades for the Miami Grand Prix. However, Hamilton believes that Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull are implementing different strategies regarding their front wings compared to Ferrari. He stated, “Just look at everyone else’s wing and look at ours, you’ll see it looks different.”
Hamilton’s frustration has been evident throughout the 2026 season. He remarked, “Because the way we’re preparing at the moment, it’s not helping.” This follows a generally more upbeat outlook since his challenging first season with Ferrari.
As of midday Tuesday, Hamilton aims to improve Ferrari’s performance before the upcoming race. He has won the Canadian Grand Prix a record-equalling seven times and hopes to leverage this experience in a more effective manner.
The exact impact of his decision on Ferrari’s preparations remains uncertain. Hamilton has indicated he will adopt a different approach moving forward: “I’m going to have a different approach in the next race.” The team must now adjust to these developments as they prepare for Canada.
