Bengaluru is experiencing a sudden hailstorm on April 29, 2026, marking a significant change from the recent heat waves. The city recorded temperatures between 34°C and 36°C earlier in the day.
A yellow alert was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for rain, lightning, and gusty winds across Karnataka. This alert follows the city’s temperature reaching as high as 36.8°C at Kempegowda International Airport.
As of midday, parts of Bengaluru transformed into icy landscapes due to the unexpected hailstorm. Thunderstorms are also forecasted to hit the city later today.
The IMD predicts that minimum temperatures will drop to around 22°C overnight. Rain probability is expected to rise to over 50% between 7 PM and 9 PM.
Officials have noted that this hailstorm indicates a shift in weather patterns as pre-monsoon activity begins to pick up. Local residents expressed surprise at the rapid change in conditions.
One observer commented, “Nature just replied with rain.” This reflects the community’s astonishment at how quickly the weather turned.
