The BMW M440i Convertible has officially launched in India. This model merges luxury with performance, offering a design that is surprisingly practical for daily driving.
It features a powerful 3.0-litre in-line six turbo engine. This engine produces 369bhp and 500Nm of torque. According to BMW, the convertible can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds. However, independent tests clocked it at an impressive 4.43 seconds.
The M440i Convertible boasts a folding fabric roof. It opens or closes in just 18 seconds, even at speeds up to 50km/h. This feature enhances its usability, particularly in urban settings.
Inside, it offers a luxurious experience with a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and wireless charging capabilities. The car also includes a continuous curved panel made up of a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen.
With a boot capacity of 385 litres, it provides more space than its sedan counterpart, which is an advantage for everyday use. The car weighs 1,890kg and features adaptive sports suspension for improved ride quality.
Observers note that owning a convertible in India is often seen as an indulgence. Yet, the M440i Convertible challenges that notion by being surprisingly usable despite its sporty design.
Critics have commented on its aesthetic appeal—”If you absolutely must nitpick, slightly larger wheels would’ve filled the arches better,” one reviewer stated. Another remarked, “It’s a surprisingly usable car, despite the body style not being ideal for India.” The overall sentiment indicates that the M440i has its own distinct personality compared to other models like the BMW M4 Competition.
As interest grows in luxury sedans and performance cars within the Indian market, the M440i Convertible could redefine expectations for convertible cars in this region.
