jabalpur cruise accident — IN news

A tragic incident occurred at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on April 30, 2026. A cruise boat capsized, resulting in four deaths and leaving twelve passengers missing.

The cruise was carrying twenty-nine passengers and two crew members when it overturned. Survivors reported that the crew ignored requests for safety precautions during adverse weather conditions.

Eyewitnesses claimed they warned the operator to return to shore due to sudden strong winds. This occurred despite a prior weather alert from the India Meteorological Department.

As of midday, rescue operations confirmed that fifteen passengers were rescued and transported to nearby hospitals. The bodies of a mother and her four-year-old son were recovered, with the mother holding her child tightly in a life jacket.

Pradeep Kumar, a survivor, stated, “There was no arrangement. Not all of us were given life jackets and had no option but share them among ourselves.” He added that the crew failed to prioritize tourist safety.

State minister Rakesh Singh announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the victims. The incident has sparked outrage over cruise safety regulations in Madhya Pradesh Tourism.

This tragedy raises significant questions about operational protocols for tourist activities on the Narmada River.
